The social merit scholarship, set under Order No. 1273/2014 of January 27, is an initiative within the social responsibility of Universidade de Lisboa to support students who are in situations of proven economic failure; aims to combat school failure and dropout and contributes to the acquisition of transversal competences socially useful.

This support can set up two types of scholarships, in particular the support scholarship and the collaborative scholarship.

The support scholarship aims to encourage students to participate in active life under appropriate conditions with the simultaneous development of academic activity, encouraging their participation in actions or training activities in academic and social areas, promoted by any organic unity or autonomous service of the University.

Are understood by actions of formation, the punctual student collaboration in sports, cultural, academic, social events, among others, and also the monitoring of students with special needs. Its duration may not exceed 5 working days and each student can not participate in more than 3 training activities per semester.

The collaborative scholarship aims to encourage student participation in activities, projects and actions socially useful and formative, being realized through the collaboration between these and autonomous organizational units and services of the University. These activities extend over a relatively long period, its duration may not exceed two semesters of study per cycle, or act as permanent needs of the services. Its achievement should be duly agreed with the host entity.

Both types of scholarships are developed under the responsibility of the organizational unit or autonomous service adhering to the program.

Can apply to this support all students registered and enrolled in a course leading to the degree of Bachelor or Master at the Universidade de Lisboa, which do not benefit from other grants for students of higher education. The proof of resources conditions is performed with the IRS note from previous year and annual income of all household elements, wich cannot exceed 15 times the Social Support Index (IAS).
